Eternal Rest Grant Unto Him, O Lord

In anticipation of Memorial Day, the Trailmen of St. Joseph’s Trail Life Troop OR-1531 spent several hours maintaining the gravesites at St. Barbara’s Cemetery.  It was both a Patriotic Act, with veterans from the Civil War through the Gulf war buried there, and an act of Faith.  At each gravesite the Trailmen said a short prayer, confident that the saints hear our petitions and bring them before the Lord.  Revelation 6:11.

Another angel with a golden censer came and stood at the altar; he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar that is before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. Rev 8:3-4

OR-1531 helps maintain St. Barbara’s before Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day.  This was the second time a contingent of Trailmen came to work at the cemetery, and already it looks so much better.  Several of the dad’s brought mowers, weed wackers, and blowers, making quick work of the ragged grass and weeds.  Special attention was made around the memorial for the unborn, which serves as the primary spot for the liturgical events and along the busy street.

As the Trailmen were wrapping things up, Fr. John Arcidiacono, arrived from a wedding to thank the boys for their hard work and lead all of OR-1531 in a closing prayer and blessing.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame, let not my enemies exult over me. No one who waits for you shall be put to shame; those shall be put to shame who heedlessly break faith.

Your ways, O Lord make know to me; teach me you paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior, and for you I wait all the day.

Remember that your compassion, O Lord, and your kindness are from of old.The sins of my youth and my frailties remember not; in your kindness remember me, because of your goodness O Lord.

Good and upright is the Lord; thus he shows sinners the way.He guides the humble to justice, he teaches the humble his way.

All the paths of the Lord are kindness and constancy toward those who keep his covenant and his decrees. For your name’s sake, O Lord, you will pardon my guilt, great as it is.

  2. Sarah, is he joining CA-3304 at St. Sebastian? We’d love to have him! We are an active troop of over 50 boys. Fr. said Mass for us last Spring at a campground in Santa Barbara County.

David, I love the website, your spot-on commentary, and following the great year your troop has had. One thing our troop is missing is a website. Maybe you could help me get one up and running for CA-3304?

    God bless you both!
